Makinde Vows to Compensate Families of Slain Officers

Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, has said the families of the five policemen killed during the EndSARS protest in the state would be compensated from the N500 million set up by the state government after the crisis that swept across the state and the country.

This is just as the governor also promised that the state government would also accede to the request of the state's Commissioner of Police on certain things to be done like the reconstruction of burnt police stations, patrol vehicles, among others.

The Governor and other members of his cabinet paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command on the impacts of the recent EndSARS protest.

Governor Makinde sympathized with the command over the death of five policemen and the 12 injured officers.

While going down memory lane on his relationship with some policemen, the Governor emphasized the relevance of policemen in the society adding that the roles in maintaining laws and order cannot be overlooked.

He charged officers and men of the command to look beyond the activities of thugs who hijacked the protest adding that he supported the protest due to the fact that part of the demands was for better welfare package for police personnel.

The Governor declared the determination of his administration to accede to all the demands put forward by the command due to the impacts of the EndSARS protest.

Earlier, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Adeleye Oyebade and the state's Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, thanked the Governor for choosing the first working week in the month of November to visit the police command.

They appealed to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Head of Departments to resume at their respective duty posts and continue to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Oyebade and Enwonwu informed the Governor on the readiness of officers to return to their respective beats towards ensuring security of lives and property in the state.
