The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, says the command recorded a total of 142 road traffic crashes and 70 death in the third quarter of 2020.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Uche Chukwurah, disclosed this in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the activities slated for 2020 African Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Chukwurah said the FRSC in the state recorded more road crashes in the third quarter which was in July and September than 112 crashes recorded in the second quarter of the year under review.
She said that more crashes were recorded during the period because it was in a rainy season and most people were in a hurry because it was when the government ease the embargo on inter state movement due to COVID-19 during the period.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Sector Commander pleaded with motorists to desist from the use of tokunbo tyres, saying more lives can be saved if they use brand new tyres.
Speaking on the activities slated for 2020 African Road Safety Day and World Day Remembrance for road traffic victims., Chukwurah said the command would pay a visitation to the hospital to identify with those who sustained some degree of injury and candle light walk on Saturday.
The Sector Commander prayed to God to console the family of those who lost their loved ones as a result of road traffic crashes.
